Preserved Topic: Merging Two PSD's?? (Page 1 of 1)

I'm slowly assembling an interface for my new web site. I built several pieces in seperate PSD's a while back in preperation. Now, the time has come to put them together. I'm sure this a simple problem that is easily solved but, after looking through the help file and the PS 7 manual, I can't seem to figure it out. If there's a way to do this, it'll be a huge timesaver for me. Is there a way to merge two PSD's and keep the layers intact?

open both documents in the PS workspace.
click on the layer you want to move...
drag it to the canvas of the other document.

In PS 7 you can also add all the layers you wish to transfer into a layer set, and drag the entire set.

Ahhh - DB beat me to it. Michael's method will only move one layer at a time. If the PSDs each have mulitple layers, DB's suggestion is a good one - IF you have PS7. If not, you'll need to drag 'em over one layer at a time. Make sure you have the move tool selected for this. If they're different sizes, and if the destination file is larger than the sourche file, holding shift will position the dragged layer in the middle of the new destination canvas.

OR...

You could always just link the layers and then drag them over. Creating a new set is great, and avoids certain problems at times (centering or resorting of order), but linking all the layers you want moved, and then clicking on one of them to drag over will drag the whole deal.

If I recall even PS 5 had the option to link layers...right beside the visibility "eye"box on each layer in the palette.

Thanks again for all the help gang. Yeah, I'm working with PS 7 and I had forgotten(or overlooked) the layer sets function as well. I appreciate the reminder. It sure makes working with this 20+ layer interface so much easier and organized.
