Guess what time it is, boys and girls ?

It`s week 41. Doesn`t seem possible that we`ve been doing this 41 weeks..
Time flies whether you`re having fun or not, so..

Have fun.It`s a big one. 120K

Since it`s been a while, and we have lots of new people, the rules are as follows:

1) Start with the above linked image.

2) Have fun with it.

3) In all other cases, see rule 2

It`s not a contest. There are no winers, no losers, Except for..nevermind, no critiques. . Just take the image, and have your way with it. Then post it up.

Glad to answer any Rules related questions if you are confused.

Very cool. I think we should re-do the Asylum scrapbook to be like figures in this illuminated page. I'd be one of the nekkid cherubs.

By the way - to any new comers - the "rules" in post 1 of this thread were presented by a man who rides in a hot air balloon with spikes, so take that into account.

Hey, VP, that's great stuff, man. Any advice on how to get that texture? I'm guessing some noise and emboss.

Thanks Silence Didnt use emboss, but noise, threshold, diffuse, unsharp mask, levels, curves, channels, offset selections and subtractions, way too many layers, HP722 inkjet, my hands, a scanner, 1 case of Rolling Rock, 1 pack of smokes, Alannis Morissette (latest album- repeated about 4 times), too much free time. Mix it all up and you get that! heh

For your entertainment heres the zipped orig (1.2meg) Dissect it if ya want. I cropped it to keep the size down, but it should show you how the mind of a maniac works!

Credit: to Darkgarden, Weadah, for tips and inspiration over the years, thanks guys ~Vp~

::edit:: almost forgot, used PS6 for this and there are several layers that use 'colour burn' or 'colour dodge' which if your using prior PS versions then the image will look a little different due to the different implementation of those 2 layer blend modes, fwiw

That's some awsome work there VP and -MUCHCO THANKS- for that psd. it's a bit of an eye opener from where I come from and I guess you're working from an art degree background. I'm comming from photography as in film/prints/hands in the chemestry background.
Mostly I'm still using masks and clone effects to fix photos and the common prepress effects. I've searched the web and links here for wonderful tips, it's not the same as seeing it in action.
So thanks for that PSD bro.
Cheers!

DB - you are a very funny guy! "What me worry" Hah! Great job of weaving your humor into the fabric of the original. I think I saw all of them, but this is the sort of thing you look forward to finding another hidden joke. Good job with the commentary at the bottom too!

dave: About 6 hours, i guess. I`m not real good at keeping track of time when I do stuff like this.

Steve: Thanks, man. This is the kind of piece you can add to forever. I had about 15 other ideas I just didn`t have time for. Lot`s of fun, this one.

Hey, thanks VP, that PSD is great stuff. I was playing around with trying to recreate that type of texture yesterday and the results should be up later.

Also, DB, you crack me up man. That's great stuff too, and I think the colors go nicely. Reminds me of the flying circus (a la monsieur python ).

Well, I'm not too happy with it since I couldn't quite get it quite the way I wanted, but I don't think I'll get another chance at it this week so here it is.

Sneakng this in at the last moment....

Here's my take on the old book.

I'm sorry for how campy it is - it's just what happened. I meant to have it be more optimistic, with a sapling or something bursting out of the book to tie in the cycle of trees to paper, but I couldn't get it to work and in the mean time this happened instead.

This image realy inspired some terrific images!
