Is this a half way decent fire/explosion?
What is the best way to create fire & explosions?

There are just a few filters, so there?s obviously not that great a quality in there
Either but just playing!!!

Doc has some fire images you could start with here
And VHS has a neat tutorial for setting text on fire here

Hope that helps.

Get away from the filters and go look at some fire. Then see what you can do. Play around with shades of red and orange and the gaussian blur filter, the selection tools, and the smudge tool. And definitely check out the tutorials.

The Eye candy filter is good for one thing: producing slightly realistic fire with just three mouseclicks. If you want control, forget it. Yes, it has adjustment sliders, but you keep seeing that it's eye candy. It's not much different. (I stopped counting how many times I've seen it in ads... I see one every second Video games magazine I read. (no, I don't own a console, I just like to read that stuff.)

And, if you want fire, using the color dodge tool/blending mode never hurts. it rules for fire.

someone's gotta say it....
Get some petrol.

For fire:
pour petrol on ground, light match, drop match in puddle.
take picture.

For explosion:
(dangerous and maybe illegal...)
contain petrol in container.
light match, etc...

Something, in PS, that nobody's mentioned so far is the use of the 'Black Body' color palette. It's got lots of reds and oranges and yellows. Give it a try.

You missed out on something, mobrul.

Get some flour and throw a bunch over the fire. It will ignite in a flash of flame so be very careful*. This is the stuff they use in movies for the cool fireballs, bags of flour.

I hear the police, too... "R-O-X-X-X-X-X-A-N-N-E-!"

Sorry... Couldn't help it. Haven't seen anyone in the asylum for awhile, and I am losing what was left of my mind...
