About a week or so ago I was asked if I had a tutorial available that illustrated how I made my Desktop Flames http://www.innerworld.com/F1_error/flames.jpg
At the time I did not, but now I do. The tutorial is available at http://www.innerworld.com/F1_error/CPM/ for all to see and enjoy.
As always comments and questions are always welcome.
-I'm not a complete idiot,

Nice F1, real nice! I haven't actually made one yet, but I poured through the tute a couple times -- some new tecniques to try out. Gonna go try it now : )
p.s. -- I too have been using Doc's bigfire pic for quite some time. I actually found it about a year or so before I ever new about Ozones. Where/how did you get that pic Doc?
What care I how time advances? I am drinking Ale today. -- Edgar Allen Poe
[This message has been edited by DL-44 (edited 29-04-2000).]

It looks like you've got the idea.
I've been waiting to see if anyone tries it, and I've got to ask. How did it work for you? I've never written a tutorial before, so I was unsure of how well it would work.
-I'm not a complete idiot,

Worked quite well. I didn't at first understand a couple of parts, but if you follow step by step it all works out.
What care I how time advances? I am drinking Ale today. -- Edgar Allen Poe

It's a really nice Tutorial F1. I made a couple of minor changes...purely on settings and type of font. It was easy to follow, and you gave the reader the chance to duck outor save and go on - nice touch. http://www.scansped.btinternet.co.uk/Scansped/F1_error.htm
Hope you like it....

Hey those look really cool.
Phil, you've got a neat ring-like effect going on in the BIGFIRE overlay. I like those kind of things, it helps to make the effect look more organic and flowing.
Ace, contrary to popular media hype, size does not matter. And size really doesn't matter with this effect either. You've got a great blue stone marble appearance. It's made me think that a fractal overlay instead of BIGFIRE may produce a cool look.
On a completely different note, DL-44, you said you didn't understand a few parts at first. Can you remember what those parts were? I've used parts of this effect for so long now that it's just second nature, which made things a little more difficult to describe. Anyone else have any problems or questions?
-I'm not a complete idiot,

Nice effect ace, really love that marble effect. As far that blue DL-44...yummy. Hope some of you other guys post a pic or two
BTW F1, you're right, it does seem to be settling down again, never seen that happen before - weird.

I doesn't look like a screw-up to me. It actually looks very smooth, very plastic.
As for how you did it, I don't really know, but it looks like you used a different setting on the overlay, and also may not have done the Blurred Highlights in Step Four. But I'm only guessing here. As long as the end result looks good, it doesn't matter how it came about.
-I'm not a complete idiot,

Hmm, I wouldn't mind getting more into some cool 3D apps. I remember when Phong was starting out, all of his stuff was created in POVray, it did some awesome stuff, but the command line interface never made me too happy.
------------------

There's a windows version of POV-Ray out. It's not bad. Color codes everything, too. =)

Any 3D work that I need to do I usually use Bryce or Ray Dream Studio. I tried Pov-Ray, and I really didn't like it. More often than not, I can usually make things better and faster in Photoshop. But to each their own.
Maybe we should take up a collection to get Photoshop for Slime. Then again, maybe he'll get that job, and he can buy it himself.
------------------
