Actually, it's all there to be seen, even to scientists. It's an "open secret" : but to perceive it, people have to seek to see it, not to invent excuses around it.

A brief example : acupuncture seeks to "puncture the spirit" based on the premise of a tangible existence of spirit. It has been invented by tossing bones with questions on them in fires, and watching the marks. Thus, acupuncture works based on the assumption that spirit AND conscious spirits exist.

Its scientific successes are countless.

http://apps.who.int/medicinedocs/en/d/Js4926e/5.html

According to the scientific method, the rigorously verified efficiency of the system implies a high degree of accuracy of its founding principle.

For one example. Dowsing, marketing, and even financial forecasting use esoteric techniques, a whole LOT of them. Analytic psychology is almost entirely founded
on so-called "esoteric practices".

...Sciences that power your daily ASSUME that spirit exist. They just don't voice it.

Now ask yourself why. What's so challenging for people about accepting there is a God?
What would it mean to you?

there has to be a higher power..we may not all agree on who or what it is. but its there. some one had to produce the elements for the big bang and so on.

Jade: Why ? Who ? Why has there to be a higher power ? Who created that "some one" ? Why has there to be a beginning ?

Matter and energy can very well have been there for ever. No beginning. No end. It just is. I don't see any problem with that.

Jade - the problem that will always exist for that line of argument is that no matter how many levels you push it...there still isn't an actual explanation.
Every 'higher power' that you can conceive still would require another 'higher power' to have created it.

If a higher power still needs a higher power to explain its origin, then it doesn't explain anything at all.

I don't know about that.

It seems to me that if you're willing to concede the possibility of an omnipotent being then it's reasonable to believe that being has always existed, called it self into existence, etc. by virtue of its omnipotence.

Then again, I've never understood why the belief in a god is considered a magical fairytale while the belief Disneyland just popped into existence is sound logic.

God!!!!!!!!
How things have changed.
I found myself twitching for a "like" button for the last few posts....
Two friends of mine suddenly "got god" or perhaps they might say "got Jesus" I don't really know.
This was an eternity ago 1974 (ish)
I always found myself in the middle saying things like "yeah but if you accept the possibility of the unknown, then anything's possible"
"Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around"
BTW
I love this place (heart)

To me, there needs to be a divide between the 2 things.

1. The hidden power we as humans are capable of utilizing that comes from a so-called 'spiritual' or unknown environment (and/or energy based)

2. The creator of this environment.

I believe, based on various research . an example mentioned above by argo_navis... that #1 is true and that we have within us locked or forgotten abilities (coral castle in Florida). And even known abilities (acupuncture, meditation, etc)

#2. the source of all of these is; in reality, no matter how sure someone says they are, an unknown.

And my view is, why does a believe in #1 necessitate a belief in #2? And even when a belief in #2 exists, the belief in #1 is often hidden under the surface...and if a discussion arises regarding the so-called para-normal, it often results in strange...sideways glances. ;-)

Errmmm...we know that love exists, and it is not dependent upon the notion of there being a God or not.

And since the Flying Spaghetti Monster got eaten by some hungry whoreshippers (sp intended), existence has been pretty lonely, god-wise...

Hehe...

And you do have it wrong, btw - it has to be proved that there is a god, not that there isn't one. One cannot prove the non-existence of something. Think about it for a bit. You know, Santa, the Beaster Bunny, the Toothy Fairy and Co. demand equality in line with that of god...as well as gods.

webshaman..you are drawn to the spirit. Its in your dna to be called or pulled. There is no denying that. Eveyone on the planet is invited or tapped. Its part of life in the human conception.
Now, its now you want to answer the invite and from which spirit.

Jade is right.

Everyone is, in essence, "looking for home".

Everyone appears to experience life as a longing, with times of "distraction" in-between. But the longing, and the fundamental aspiration, are still there.

We seek home in our friends, our work, our leisure. We always seem to be seeking the answer to "who am I?"

"Why am I here?"

And for - something indescribable.

As for the point of Gilbert: when studying the origin of these "extraneous capabilities" or talents, and/or of the traditions through which they have been established, we find a rich, vibrant discourse with "something".

This is best illustrated. Genetic research meets shamanism, I didn't want to go there but it IS there.

http://www.dankalia.com/paranoia/shamans.htm

Fundamentally, it appears that a tapestry of non-physical beings are there to assist.

Assist in our return.

Of all the threads to see emerge from the murk.

I'm gonna' go hunting something freaky to necro around the back rooms. Got my torch, my big ball of string, some camping supplies, and the biggest feather duster I could buy.

If I don't emerge this time next week, don't send anyone to look for me. It's the way I would have wanted to go. Just wind back the string for the next adventurer (and maybe note whether the end is charred or cut)...
