I spent a few hours to-day trying to set up some macro photographs of a fly that was falling about all over my windowsill. While setting that shot up I practised with a series of shots of plants that I hope to use in a stack.
The fly ended up as a snack for my new Venus fly trap (Dionaea muscipula).

This is the fly trap in question. I think you should be able to make out the three trigger hairs on either side of the leaf trap.

This is one of those traps even closer. The surface of the inside of the traps is coated in a type of nectar that attracts the insects

This third shot is just about the closest I could get. This is the trigger hair that, if touched two or three times, will cause the trap to close.

I have linked to a short video of the trap actually closing. Venus Fly Trap in action

Thanks reisio
This is a shot showing how the trap itself closes when it has a live prey inside and when it closes without. The trap on the left shut a few minutes before the one on the right. It did not catch anything as it closed. The trap to the right is the one featured in the video that caught the fly. An hour or so after it caught the fly it continued to press the trap jaws tighter together.

I hadn't seen this before. Fantastic!

Your pictures illustrate part of the mechanism I've never seen before. Really, really interesting stuff.

Thanks Tao!
